This set of 3 tools I had originally custom made for myself to collect Yamadori out in the wild. For excavating trees in more extreme situations, rocky and steep environments where I was finding my standard bonsai root hooks were not withstanding the heavy and labor intensive work. All tools are made out of a solid 12mm Rebar with it folded and welded back on itself to form a ergonomic non-slip handle. All tools come with there own EudaiBonsai Lanyard with Carabiner, and all in the their own individual canvas tool-bag with draw-cord.
Long Reach Adze – 44cm
The long reach adze has a 4cm wide flat steel welded onto the end of it, with a semi-sharp “blade” ground into the inside edge of the adze head. This allows you to be able to loosen and remove larger amounts of dirt and stone underneath the root-ball, being able to reach into tight spaces that your shovel, trowel and hand would not be able to reach into. Also with the sharp edge on the end of the adze you are able to use this in a axe type fashion to cut through small roots and other objects that are getting in the way of lifting the tree. I’ve even found it very handy when used in a machete type fashion to cut through blackberry and brambles just so I can get close tot the tree to lift it, a lethal little demon that commands a lot of respect!
