Pyracantha is a genus of large, thorny evergreen shrubs in the family Rosaceae, with common names firethorn or pyracantha. They are native to an area extending from Southwest Europe east to Southeast Asia. They resemble and are related to Cotoneaster, but have serrated leaf margins and numerous thorns (Cotoneaster is thornless).
This tree has come to me out of a old collection and is known to be at least 50 years old. Since it has been in my care I have reduced the root ball considerably and reduced the foliage mass. Giving the trunk and gorgeous nebari better scale proportions, setting it up for a bright new future!
